Evidence-based PTSD handouts for OT

I’m refreshing our Tuesday 1400 PTSD skills group at the VA and need veteran-friendly handouts that align with OT goals like grounding, sleep routines, and activity pacing… If you have PDFs or tools you rely on — PCL-5 check-in sheets, PTSD Coach app guides, sensory modulation plans, or return-to-work templates — what’s been acceptable to veterans and shown measurable benefit?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

And we pair weekly PCL-5 check-ins with CBT-i Coach sleep diary (CBT-i Coach | VA Mobile) — want our one-page pacing card?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’ve had good buy-in with a one-page “grounding + pacing” handout that combines 5‑4‑3‑2‑1, a red/yellow/green activity menu, and a 0–10 distress check pre/post; I add a QR to PTSD Coach’s Manage Symptoms so it doubles as homework: VA.gov | Veterans Affairs. @jameson_b82, that’d layer nicely with your card — mine’s laminated and sized like a pocket field manual; want the template?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

For your Tuesday group, I found that using a daily mood tracking sheet really resonates with veterans. It’s simple but effective in helping them connect their daily activities with their emotional states, especially with grounding techniques. Have you thought about integrating something similar?
