I had the most amusing experience leading a senior fitness class last week… We were using resistance bands, and one gentleman accidentally sent his flying across the room — it hit the instructor! He just laughed and said, ‘That’s the most action my band has seen all year!’ It’s moments like these that remind me how vital humor is in our work. Seeing our seniors stay active while sharing a good laugh truly makes my day.
You’re so right about the importance of humor in our classes! Just the other day, one of my seniors used a band to absentmindedly swing at a water bottle — it missed, but boy, did we all crack up. Moments like that keep the energy up, even when I’m , trying to remember to keep my head on straight amidst the chaos.
I love how laughter can break the ice in a senior fitness class! One time, we were doing chair exercises and a lady miscalculated her band stretch and ended up half-knocked out her own water bottle — everyone erupted in giggles. It’s those unexpected moments that really boost morale and make the class feel more like a fun gathering. Just be ready for anything, right?
Had a similar moment last week! One senior accidentally tangled her bands and we spent a good five minutes untangling while laughing.
Anyone else had band-related mishaps? @OccupationalTherapyFun.
